Owens Daniels
Photographer + Video Artist
Owens’ photographic career started at the U.S Army Photographic School of Cartography, learning the basics of photography. In addition to his formal training, he continues his education through self-education, workshops, and a career as a freelance photographer and visual artist. One area that has extended his photographic career is the art of visual storytelling, a distinctive and decisive style that continues to open doors such as lead artist for The Green Book Project a photography/visual artist project of Winston Salem, several artist residency and positions as photography instructors at Sawtooth School of Visual Arts as well as being awarded public art installations, grants, awards, exhibitions and commissions.
He was first introduced to the power of art by his mother. Owens showed her a picture he had drawn; she smiled, pinned it on the refrigerator, pointed it out to everyone, and said, “Look at what my baby has done.” Later in life, his father gave him this piece of advice, which guides his work to this day: “Everybody has a story to tell, so tell what you see.”
Owens’ vision is to utilize the visual arts to convey his interpretation of the world and create unexplored spaces between the subject and the viewer.
